What is your cancellation policy?
All reservations require a 50% deposit. "No Shows" will forfeit their payment. Reservations and full payment can be made with cash, check, VISA, and MasterCard. James River Float Company reserves the right to cancel any trips if weather or water conditions are hazardous. It is always recommended to call for information on the condition of the river before your trip. If James River Float Company cancels, you receive a full refund or may reschedule without penalty.

What about safety and liability?
We have certain safety requirements and we offer safety tips. Please arrive at least 20 minutes before your scheduled launch for a review.

Where do I park?
Customers accessing the river may use Amherst County's public boat launch parking, which is located a mere 150 ft. past our store on the right.

Where are you guys located?
Right outside downtown Lynchburg. Cross the John Lynch bridge heading into Madison Heights, and turn right immediately after crossing the bridge onto River Road. Then drive down to the bottom of the hill and turn left onto Rocky Hill Rd. We are the first building on your right.

What do you all offer?
We offer guided and unguided tube, canoe, kayak, and batteau trips down the James River.

I have never done a river trip before? What type of trip is best for beginners?
We offer trips that suit everyone at every experience level. For beginners we offer multiple options. If you are active and somewhat adventurous we recommend renting one of our kayaks. They allow you to paddle around and explore and maybe even surf a wave or two while going down river. If you just want to lay back and relax and not work at all we can accommodate you too! Just hop in one of our tubes and let yourself and your worries drift away.

I have my own kayak/canoe and just need someone to pick me up and drive me back to my car, do you guys offer this service?
We love putting people on the river! We are glad to offer shuttle service at the price of $15 per person for our 7 mile float out of downtown Lynchburg.

Do I need to make a reservation?
We prefer reservations with larger groups, but you can definitely just give us a call if you decide it looks sunny and nice and want to get out on the water!

How long does a typical float take?
Our most popular float out of downtown Lynchburg takes between 3-4 hours.

What should I bring with me?
River shoes are most important (shoes that have a back and will stay on your feet), sunscreen, any drinks and food you might want, and of course a camera!

What forms of payment do you all accept?
Credit Cards, Checks, and Cash.

Can I bring my kids?
We are a very kid friendly company, but insurance regulations insist on a few guidelines, most importantly that children wear lifejackets on the river at all times. Also, children must be at least 6 years old for all trips.

Can I bring my dog?
Yes.

How do I know where to go/where to take out once I am on the water?
You will float down river so that is the way to go! You will see our stairs leading up to the take out at the end of the float. One of our professional James River Float Company staff will also be standing by so you know you are in the right spot!

Do you offer any discounts?
We offer college/student discounts. We also offer discounts to groups of 20 people or more, call for group pricing.
